I love a challenge. I am writing in response to #4 - the rape challenge. I didn't think I could do it, but I started writing for hours. It was hard to write the rape scenes because I feel it is the worst possible thing that could happen to a woman. It is one of my greatest fears. I hope this responds to you emotionally and evokes empathy. Disclaimer: These characters belong to Chris Carter, Ten Thirteen productions, 20th Century Fox, etc. . . except the officers and Kevin. Dana Scully was on cloud nine. Kevin was everything she hoped for - handsome, intelligent, charming. She met him at a medical convention three months ago. They had an instant rapport with each other. They called each other weekly and emailed every other day. Kevin drove two hours every other weekend to be with her. Luckily, their caseload had been light and she didn't have to follow Mulder in the dead of night to some remote corner of the world. Mulder seemed happy for her when she talked about Kevin. However, he would get that annoyed look after awhile. She knew when to quit. Kevin started a fire while Scully opened a bottle of Chardonnay and poured two glasses. Sitting on the couch, they talked about medicine, politics, anything. It was so easy to talk with him. They shared many common interests. Kevin leaned into kiss her. She wrapped her arms around his neck pulling him closer. He started to move on top of her, pinning her to the couch. It hurt her. His weight was crushing her into the cushions. "Kevin . . . wait. You're hurting me." she pleaded. "I thought you wanted this." He said moving away from her. Scully got off the couch and walked towards the fireplace. "I'm not ready yet, Kevin." "I thought we had something special, Dana." "We do." Scully moved to stand near him. She took his hand in hers. "That's why I don't want to rush into anything." Kevin looked at her. She was one incredible looking woman. So hot. Did she think he didn't want to sleep with her. No. He's waited for this one long enough. Kevin grabbed her and began kissing her forcefully. Scully backed up, but he held her tightly. She pushed against him. Kevin forced her down to the floor and began unbuttoning her blouse. Scully continued to struggle. "Kevin . . don't do this. No. Please don't." Scully was alarmed. "Did you think this wasn't going to happen? I've waited three months for this. That's longer than any woman I've dated." he said angrily. "Relax. I know you will enjoy it." Scully wasn't going to let this happen to her. She continued to fight - hitting and grabbing at him. She tried to scoot over to the phone on the end table. However, he was too smart. Kevin ripped it out of the wall and threw it across the room. Wait. Her gun was in the bedroom. Maybe she could get him in there. "Kevin . ." Scully said in a shaky voice she didn't recognize. "Let's go into the bedroom. I want to be on the bed." "No. Right here. It turns me on." Kevin said in an aroused state. She saw the excitement and anger in his eyes. This wasn't working. Scully was frightened. He tugged her skirt down and off of her body. Ripping her pantyhose off, he pushed his fingers inside her roughly. She gasped at the intrusion. It was hurting her. However, she tried not to cry. She didn't want him seeing that. He pushed them deeper inside of her and tore the silk blouse off her shoulders moving his hands under her camisole. He kneaded and squeezed her breasts. Pinching them. She felt his hot breath against her cheek. It was ragged and shallow. She heard him unbuckle his belt and pull down his pants. All of a sudden she had an unexpected surge of strength. Scully pushed up against his chest and then started to drag herself on the carpeting. He was too quick. Kevin grabbed her waist and ripped her panties off in the process. However, she managed to knock over a lamp from the end table. She grabbed the base of it and aimed it at his head. At that moment, he moved and it just grazed his arm instead of the intended target. "That's it!" Kevin yelled. "Bitch. I'm going to make you stay still!" Scully was terrified. He grabbed her arms and held her down by the wrists. Pushing her legs apart with his knees, he drove into her. Hurting her. He kept pushing himself inside her more and more. Her back was burning from the scraping of the carpet. She felt the tears rain down her face. Silent tears. She wouldn't let him hear her cry. He wouldn't have the satisfaction. He came inside her. He pulled out of her and moved off her. Scully was numb. She couldn't move. Didn't want to move. She wanted to just lie here and die. What if he tried again? She curled up in a ball not looking at him. Then she felt his hands on her. His mouth. No. "Get away from me, you bastard." she screamed. "C'mon, Dana. Just one more time. You liked it, didn't you?" He moved his fingers inside her again. Roughly. "See, you're so wet." "No. No. " Scully continued to hear herself say over and over again. Mulder was standing outside her door trying to gather his thoughts. What he was going to say to her? He heard noises. It sounded like something crashed to the ground. He also heard Scully's voice. She sounded angry and upset. She was yelling. He knocked on the door. "Scully?" Kevin stopped. He heard someone at the door. Mulder. He was here. Scully was relieved. "Mulder, help me. Mulder!" she yelled as loud as she could over and over. Kevin put a hand over her mouth and held her down. He got on top of her trying to force her legs apart. Mulder used his key and ran inside. He saw a man on top of Scully. Mulder grabbed him off her. He punched him in the face over and over again. He fell to the floor, blood coming out of his nose. Mulder looked over at Scully. She was in the fetal position, half-naked with her face pressed into the carpeting. She was shaking. He wanted to go over there and comfort her. More than anything else. However, rage took over. He slammed this guy up against the wall. "You sonofabitch!" Mulder yelled at him. He then stepped on something. The phone. It was ripped out of the wall. Did she try and call him? He failed her again. He let her down. Mulder held the guy by pressing his forearm against his throat. He used his cell phone to call the police. "Who are you?" Mulder tightened his grip on her attacker. "What are you doing in Scully's apartment!?" "Who the hell are you? Her knight-in-shining-armor?" "I asked you a question, you bastard!" Mulder pressed him into the wall harder. "Kevin. Kevin Roberts." Oh God. Scully's Kevin. He did this to her. No. "Dana and I were just fine until you came." Kevin said. "Yeah, she looks like she was having a real blast." "Hey, she wanted it and she wanted me to give it to her. They all want it rough." "You sick bastard!! Don't you dare talk about her like that!" Mulder yelled at him coming dangerously close to choking the life out of him. "I've never had a redhead until now. Are you jealous? You doing her, too?" Kevin spat. Mulder hit him again and again. Then he heard Scully crying harder. Looking at this guy made him physically ill. The thought of him touching her ... forcing her ... The sirens were getting louder and louder. The police came and Mulder explained the situation. He flashed them his ID that he happened to have with him in the leather jacket. The officer saw the woman lying on the floor. "All right, zip up, asshole." The first officer ordered. The second one handcuffed him and led him out of Scully's apartment. "Sir, I'm going to need a statement from the woman." He said to Mulder. Mulder walked over to Scully and knelt down. She was still curled up. "Scully?" he said softly. "The officer needs to talk to you. Ask you some questions." She didn't budge. Mulder went to the bathroom and got her robe. He draped it over her. Scully moved into a sitting position clutching the rob around her body. Her make-up was smeared on her face. Tears streaked her cheeks. Her eyes were red and swollen. Mulder never saw his partner like this and it hurt him terribly. The officer came over to sit on the couch and introduced himself as Murphy. "Ma'am I know this is hard, but I need to know what happened." Scully had a vacant look in her eyes. Mulder reached for her hand and squeezed it. She lightly squeezed back. "Did he rape you?" "Yes." It was barely a whisper. "Did he break in?" "No. He is . . was my boyfriend. We came back from ..." the tears started again. "Do you have to do this now?" Mulder interjected. "We'll also have to get his version of the story." Murphy said. "What version. The bastard raped her. He needs to be locked up." Mulder shouted at the officer. "Ma'am, I suggest you go to the hospital and get checked out." Scully nodded. She tried to get up. Mulder helped her. She winced against the pain as she tried to walk. This didn't escape Mulder's notice. He wished he could get Kevin alone again. Five more minutes. Washington Memorial Hospital Emergency Room 10:13 p.m. Scully was lying on the table. She was numb. She answered all the nurses questions no matter how embarrassing. Now she had to endure the examination. Being poked and probed again. She hurt. She was angry. Kevin. He lied to her all these weeks. Waiting for the right time to . . If Mulder hadn't come in he would have done it again and again. He could have raped her the whole night. Mulder sat out in the waiting room. What could he say to her? Nothing would help. The only comfort was that Kevin was locked up and away from Scully. She really cared about him and he betrayed her in the worst way. If he didn't come over then what would have happened. How many times did he rape her? Once? Twice? How long had Kevin been there before he came? Scully fought him off, but apparently she had no more strength left in her body. She couldn't fight anymore. The only thing he could do was be there for her. Whatever she needed. Mulder saw her walking towards him. The white robe wrapped around her body tightly. He remembered months ago watching her walk down a similar hallway in Allentown after beginning her cancer treatments. This was just another violation of her body and mind. She stopped in front of the vinyl chair next to him jarring him back to the present. "You ready?" he asked. She just nodded. Scully's apartment 12:41 a.m. She walked through the door. The phone was still on the floor where he had flung it. The lamp base was broken by the foot of the couch. The glasses contained remnants of liquid on the table along with the half empty bottle of wine. The warm fire had died out leaving nothing but burnt embers. She walked over to the couch and then saw the spot on the carpet where Kevin had held her down. Hurting her. She put her hand to her mouth and started crying. Mulder ran across the room to her. "I can't stay here. Take me out of here. I can't . . ." she said almost the verge of collapsing. "Of course. Anywhere you want." Mulder's apartment 1:37 a.m. Scully felt better when she walked through the door. The smell. Familiar. It smelled like Mulder. This was a place to escape. A hide out that she had come to on numerous occasions. However, this time he was here with her. Not off on a quest making her worry. They were here together. This would be her sanctuary tonight. "What do you need?" Mulder asked softly. "A shower." Of course. She must feel like hell. Scully spent a half hour scrubbing herself with a big bar of Safeguard as if that alone could take the pain away for good. She adjusted the water to the hottest setting possible and let it run over her body even though the forceful spray hurt the bruises and abrasions on her legs, chest, and back. She stepped out of the shower and wrapped the robe back around her trying not to look at her reflection in the mirror. She didn't want the evidence staring her back in the face right now. It was more than enough to endure the pain right now. The physical evidence would heal soon, but the emotional would take a lot longer. Scully combed her hair back with Mulder's brush and then found the hair dryer underneath the cabinet. The heat warmed her if only for a few minutes. She came out of the bathroom and found clothes on the bed for her. A thermal shirt, sweat pants, and socks. They wouldn't fit. She put them on anyway. They were warm and smelled of him. "They look better on you than me." Mulder stated as she walked out into the living room. She half-smiled at him. She had to pull the drawstring tight to make them stay up on her waist. The shirt was big, however, she liked it. "Are you hungry? I could find something in the kitchen and . . ." "No. I don't know. Not now." She said sitting down on the couch next to him. "Why did you come over tonight? I mean the real reason?" "I don't know if you want to hear it." "Tell me, Mulder. I want to know." she asked meeting his gaze. "I wanted to tell you I was sorry about the way I acted when you talked about him .. Kevin. I was a little jealous the way your face lit up when you talked about him. The way you smiled when you said his name." Scully thought he sounded hurt. "I can really pick them, can't I?" she said starting to cry. Mulder pulled her close to him. He listened to her body shaking as she cried into his chest. "Scully . . ." he said gently. "Why don't you try and get some sleep?" She moved her head up to look at him. "I don't think I can, Mulder." "Then just go in there and lie down for awhile. I'll be right out here if you need anything." Scully got up slowly and looked at Mulder. She vaguely remembered him grabbing Kevin off of her. However, she did recall Mulder's voice only because she never heard him so angry before. Ever. She still saw the remains of rage reflected in his eyes. "Good night." She said to him before walking back to the bedroom. Scully crawled under the covers and closed her eyes. There was no way she could sleep not with everything still fresh in her mind. She started thinking of anything she could have done differently. She went through every scenario in her mind until drifting off to sleep. Then the nightmares began: No. You're hurting me. Stop. Don't do this. No. Kevin, I don't want this. No. No. Mulder heard her and rushed into the bedroom. She was screaming. He turned on the light by the side of the bed. Getting on the bed, he put his arms around her trying to coax her out of the dream. "Scully, wake up. It's a nightmare." She continued to struggle against him saying stop and don't over and over again. "Scully, it's me. It's Mulder. You're safe." Scully opened her eyes and remembered where she was. In Mulder's apartment. In his bedroom. Kevin couldn't hurt her now. Mulder would protect her. She stopped struggling and relaxed against Mulder's welcoming embrace. "I tried, Mulder. I tried to fight him, but he was too strong. He held me down. Hurting me. He hurt me so much." she cried. "It's not your fault, Scully." Mulder said into her hair. "You said no. He should have stopped." "I know that, but it doesn't make me feel any better. To think that he was just biding his time for all these weeks. He didn't care about me. He just wanted to get me into bed. I trusted him, Mulder." she said. "He used that to his advantage and it made you vulnerable." Mulder told her. "I don't know what I would have done if you didn't come over. He would have raped me again. All night." Mulder was relieved he hadn't raped her many times. However, the fact that she had to endure it once was horrible. "I'm glad I didn't have my gun. I would have killed him for doing this to you." Scully let his words sink in. She believed him. If he had his gun, she wouldn't have stopped him and that scared her. She now realized how much Mulder cared about her. To what lengths he would go to insure her safety. "You're the only one I trust." she said softly to him. Mulder held her tighter. Pulled her closer to him as if that could take away all the pain. Scully shifted in his arms. "Mulder, don't that hurts." "I'm sorry." What did this guy do to her he thought, how bad did he hurt her. "What did I do?" he asked. "It's not you. I have bruises and red marks on my body that hurt to touch. You were just holding me a little too tight." But I want to hold you like that, he thought to himself. I want you to be that close to me. Scully searched his eyes. "I wish you could hold me like that. We'll have to save that for later." Mulder was surprised by that statement. It was as if she read his thoughts. He had to ask her this. He had to know. "Did he hit you?" He was almost afraid to know the answer. "No. He just held me down." Scully raised the sleeves of the thermal shirt and let him see the some of the bruises. Mulder looked at the discolorations on her wrists and forearms. He imagined her lying on the floor and that animal on top of her imprisoning her with his strength. Mulder touched his lips softly to her right arm as if that would heal her wounds. He did the same to the left one. Scully watched him. Watched his eyes soften as he touched his lips to her skin. She closed her eyes and for one brief moment thought of nothing but Mulder and how wonderful this gesture made her feel. Scully moved closer to him laying her head on his chest and closed her eyes. Mulder pressed his lips into her hair. He put his arm around her body lightly. He would have to settle for that. For now. Well, what do you think? Should I write a sequel. I've been toying with the idea.
